Our Community

As part of our mission, Ypsilanti Food Co-op is involved in many community programs.  It's important to our members that our community involvement and financial contributions address the food and environmental concerns that our vision statement directs us to achieve.  We participate in community events and contribute to them (especially with in-kind donations), as well as advertise in event guides.  We do not donate to political parties or candidates or to religious institutions.  We do not request public recognition of our contributions.

A key principle of cooperative businesses is "Cooperation among cooperatives." YFC is a member of national cooperative groups, as well as an active participant in our local DDA and other city, county and regional groups promoting sustainable local economies and businesses.  Below is a sampling:

"A good community, as we know, insures itself by trust, good faith, and good will, by mutual help.  A good community, in other words, is a good local economy."
—Wendell Berry, "Work of Local Culture"
